Dubai hotel staff refuses to serve a Nigerian woman, asks her to leave, Hotel management apologises

A Nigerian woman named Hanna Fanni was discriminated against at a hotel in Dubai on July 8th. The hotel staff at five-star hotel Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach refused to serve her and showed her the door when she visited the hotel's popular West Beach Bistro & Sports Lounge with her black American friend. The outraged Nigerian said what they did to them reminded her of 1930s America. "They suspected us of being prostitutes and targeted us solely because of the colour of our skin. I have lived here for 10 years and have never been treated in such a disrespectful and despicable manner." Hannah said “My friend had just graduated and we were hoping to enjoy a girls’ night out at the bar but came back traumatised. First the waitress refused to serve us and then a security guard ordered us to leave the hotel. At one stage he was ready to engage with us physically which is classified as assault and sexual harassment in UAE. He kept telling us that the bar didn’t allow unaccompanied women. I found it strange because there were several tables occupied by women. When I pointed to them, he said he was merely following orders.” Hannah told Dubai News Express Hannah said as things got heated, the bar manager intervened. “I showed him my business card. When he saw it, his face contorted in panic as it dawned on him that they had racially profiled the wrong people. But instead of making amends, he said the security guard had asked us to leave as some black women had come in earlier and solicited their guests. I was stunned. Just because some black women had approached their guests, the hotel assumed we were also prostitutes.” Hannah said, realizing their mistake, the hotel tried to make amend but they were so humiliated they had to leave “On the way out, I stopped at the front desk and sought to speak to the duty manager but he refused to meet us. Instead a female staff came out and tried to hush up the matter saying ‘Obama is the President of US’ as if that had anything to do with us. I want the management of the hotel to realise that this isn’t 1930. This is 2015. You cannot walk up to random black women and tell them you will not serve them because they are black. I am completely flabbergasted that in this day and age the policy of an international chain is to not allow people into their bars because of the colour of their skin,” she said Hannah, who heads an events management company later wrote to management of the hotel, asking for an apology. And they did apologize to her, calling it an unfortunate incident. "The incident occurred purely due to the misunderstanding of the employees and we would like to clarify that there is no such management policy existent in the hotel. Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach welcomes and respect each and every guest and this incident in no way reflects our true standards of service. An official apology letter from the hotel management and employees involved has also been sent to the guest.” the management said

Rapper Capo killed in Chicago

Capo a rapper associated with Chief Keef's Glo Gang was shot dead yesterday July 11th in the South Side of Chicago.

Police said the shooting took place around 2 pm yesterday and Capo was hit in the back and hip. The 22-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. TMZ reports that when the suspects were fleeing, they hit a baby stroller with their vehicle and also killed a 13-month-old boy.

A disturbing video is floating around online showing Capo in a pool of blood on the sidewalk just minutes after the shooting. The police currently have two suspects in custody.

President Buhari recalls ambassadors

Pres. Buhari has recalled Nigerian non-career ambassadors in foreign countries. The ambassadors were recalled as part of efforts to reposition the country’s foreign policies. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, confirmed the recall.

Adesina said only non-career ambassadors are affected in the recall.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that non-career ambassadors have been recalled by the Federal Government,” the presidential spokesman said.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman escapes from prison

Top Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has escaped from a maximum security prison for the second time, security officials announced yesterday. Guzman, who headed the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, was last seen in the area of the showers in the Altiplano prison outside of Mexico City

The National Security Commission said in a statement that Guzman went to the showers shortly before 9 p.m. and wasn't seen for a while. Upon checking his cell, authorities found that it was empty.


A search operation began immediately in the surrounding area and highways. Flights have also been suspended at Toluca airport near the penitentiary. 

Guzman was captured in February 2014 after more than a decade on the run. He faces multiple federal drug trafficking indictments in the U.S. and was on the DEA's most-wanted list.

Guzman had been caught previously in Guatemala in 1993, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mexico for murder and drug trafficking. He escaped from another maximum security prison, Puente Grande in western Jalisco state, in 2001 with the help of prison guards.

The Sinaloa Cartel empire stretches throughout North America and reaches as far away as Europe and Australia. The cartel has been heavily involved in the bloody drug war that has torn through parts of Mexico for the last several years.

Sinaloa is believed now to control most of the major crossing points for drugs at the U.S. border with Mexico.

Nigerian & Tanzanian students of Nairobi school fight over Kenyan girls (photos)

So, is this what they sent you Nigerian students to go and do in Kenya...fight over girls? A group of Nigerian and Tanzanian boys who are students of a private university in Kenya clashed on Friday July 10th at Roysambu area in Nairobi.

According to local reports, the students had been drinking together at a bar called Shisha bar when they began arguing over Kenyan girls who they met at the bar. As the girls made to leave with the Tanzanian boys, the Nigerian students refused to let them go...allegedly. But the Tanzanian boys managed to flee the scene with the girls only for the Nigerians to pursue them in their car to the boys flat near the bar...allegedly. Continue...

Realising that the Nigerians students were catching up with them, the Tanzanian students abandoned their car - a Subaru - and fled to their flat - only for the Nigerians to smash the abandoned car ...allegedly...while shouting obscenities at the same time. They fled the scene after causing damage.

Supposedly, this is the car the Nigerian students destroyed...

President Buhari reportedly refused to meet with Bukola Saraki

According to a report by Punch, Pres. Buhari has resisted new moves by Saraki to meet with him because he's still upset over what Saraki did during the National Assembly elections...

An official in the Presidency said the President and the Senate President had only met once since the latter’s emergence as the leader of the senate. The official said all efforts by Saraki to have another meeting with the president, after the party’s National Executive Council meeting two Fridays ago, have proved abortive.

The reliable source said that Saraki had at different times reached out to people to help him persuade Buhari to grant him audience.

“The truth is that the President is still displeased with what transpired in the National Assembly, especially the Senate. Their encounter during the APC National Executive Council meeting, when they shook hands, was the first meeting between President Buhari and Saraki since he emerged as the President of the Senate.

“We are aware that Saraki has been going about begging people to assist him to plead with the President to meet with him. That was one of the reasons why he visited former President Obasanjo.

“I can tell you that the President is very pained by what happened. He felt that since he had been transparent with the party, everybody should play that way. But since Saraki took that path, the President was and he is still pained. Let us just hope that at the end of it all, they will be able to put the matter behind them.” the source said

Amaechi, Bakare, others on Buhari's 18-man delegation to the US

Former Rivers state governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former VP candidate to Buhari, Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly and 16 others are said to be among those Pres. Buhari plans to take with him on his 3-day visit to the US on July 20.

According to Sahara Reporters, others are; Oyo state governor Abiola Ajimobi, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and two others. The delegation will also include top aides, political associates of the President, former member of the House of Representatives Farouk Adamu, top civil servants, representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, and reps from economic policy and foreign affairs think tanks.

EFCC says 2 key witnesses in Nyako suit have died mysteriously

EFCC disclosed that 2 of its crucial witnesses in the N29billion fraud case against former Adamawa state governor Murtala Nyako, his son Abdulazis and other associates, have died mysteriously. The anti-graft agency told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday July 10th that the mysteriously deaths of the 2 men have put fear in other witnesses who are now refusing to cooperate with them for fear of the unknown. EFCC begged the court to remand Nyako and his co-accused as it would be dangerous to allow them go on bail & also so witnesses could come forward & testify against them

"Two of our crucial witnesses, Ma’aji Mohammed Iro and Abdulmalik Dalhatu have died in mysterious circumstances and this has instilled fear in other prospective witnesses in the case" EFCC told the court

Ma’aji Mohammad Iro was a Regional Manager with Zenith Bank, who was in charge of Adamawa State Govt's accounts with the bank and allegedly assisted the former governor in the looting spree.
