Jonathan has poor understanding of Boko Haram-Obasanjo

“The former head of state warned that for Nigeria to make progress, it must not continue to engage in disdain  for the truth, elevation of corruption and incompetence, reinforcement of failure, celebration of heinous crimes and mediocrity,  tribal bigotry,  fomenting violence and anti – democratic practices in states and National Assembly.”
Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Wednesday, sneered at President Goodluck Jonathan for not having adequate understanding of the Boko Haram insurgency and being unable to proffer a response to the menace staring the nation its face.
Besides, Obasanjo also derided Jonathan’s administration for celebrating what he called ‘’naked corruption’’, which according to him, has hampered the nation’s economy and created problems for majority of Nigerians.
Obasanjo spoke at the presentation of an Autobiography of the former President of the Court of Appeal and pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Retired Justice Mustapha Akanbi in Abuja.
The former President claimed that “Boko Haram is not simply a menace based on religion or one directed to frustrate anybody’s political ambition but essentially a socio-economic problem that is tainted with religion.
He noted that apart from not having a proper understanding of the phenomenon, the Jonathan administration also wasted time in taking steps to curtail the malevolent group.
He said: “President Jonathan’s understanding of Boko Haram phenomenon suffered from wrong reading and wrong imputation. That is what led us to where we are today. It is a gargantuan danger to the nation and to all Nigerians.
“It took even the president more than three years to appreciate and understand that it is a terrible mix of poor education or lack of education, misinterpretation of what is almost and the Quran teach and stand for, poverty,  unemployment, injustice,  drug, gun trafficking,  human trafficking,  fallout from Libya,  revenge,  frustration,  struggle against inequality,  imitation of international terrorism leading to training and part of the absorption by international terrorists groups and general poor governance including corruption.”
Obasanjo also blamed the Jonathan administration for what he called naked display of corruption, thereby hampering the nation’s economy.
The former leader pointed out, “For quite some time, the covered and hushed up corruption has had its toll on the economy.  The non-investment in the oil and gas sector by major international oil companies has added its own deleterious impact.
“Our continued heavy dependence on one commodity has not adequately prepared us against any shock in that one commodity in the international plane. With the figure of $78 per barrel as benchmark, we will be in a bind if oil price falls to $75 per barrel.
“I am made to understand that Saudi Arabia used $68 as benchmark for the 2015 budget. Our inadequate protection of almost all local industries with heavy cost of energy has dealt a hard blow on most indigenous industries.”
Obasanjo said that if the situation was not halted it would get to a point where Nigeria would not be able to fund its budget.
“We may have to borrow to pay salaries and allowances. Revenue allocation to states and local governments has already been drastically reduced. Capital projects at all levels may have to be drastically cut or stopped, “he said.
The former head of state warned that for Nigeria to make progress, it must not continue to engage in disdain  for the truth, elevation of corruption and incompetence, reinforcement of failure, celebration of heinous crimes and mediocrity,  tribal bigotry,  fomenting violence and anti – democratic practices in states and National Assembly.
Speaking at the event, Akanbi observed that though there were allegations of witch – hunting during the Obasanjo era, the former president never interfered with the work of the ICPC under him.
The former judge however expressed dismay over the rising level of impunity, nepotism and tribalism in the country thereby killing merit in the public and private sectors of the economy.
But the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu disagreed with the position of Obasanjo, saying that he failed to instil transparency in the nation’s oil sector during his tenure, thereby allowing the sector to be besieged by corruption.
“Obasanjo failed to address the problems with the number of crude oil per barrel produce daily, how many barrels are exported for sale as well as the use of the proceeds,” Akiolu said.
But Obasanjo defended himself, saying that it was during his time that allocations to states were made more transparent with monthly publication of revenue to the three tiers of governments.
The Vice President,  Arch Namadi Sambo, described the former ICPC chairman as a man who did his best to stall corruption in the country and carved a niche for himself in the process.
The book launch was attended by prominent Nigerians from all walks of life.

Boko Haram: Legislator advises Jonathan to deploy military to troubled state

Rep. Babatunde Adewale (Lagos-APC) on Wednesday advised President Goodluck Jonathan to deploy more troops to states affected by insurgency.
Adewale said in Abuja that it was not conducive for the house members to discuss the extension of the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
According to him, there is a provision in the Armed Forces Act that gives the president power to deploy army to troubled zones.
“The government should allow other arms of government to perform their duties.
“Let him deploy the army to these places and continue the operations pending the time that insurgency will come down.
“All of us have to be patriotic; we have suffered for this democracy and we should nurture it, we should allow it to work,” said Adewale.
He therefore, advised that the army operations should continue until the house resumes.
It will be recalled that Rep. Mohammed Zakari, Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, that the House of Representatives had on Nov. 20 rejected the president’s request to extend the emergency rule.
Zakari said that the House resolved that the Federal Government should rely on the provisions of the constitution to deploy military personnel to further combat insurgency in the affected region.
“We have not extended the emergency rule rather, we have asked the president to rely on Section 8 of the Armed Forces Act which empowers him to deploy the military to troubled spots of the country,” he said. (NAN)

Pakistani man kills niece for listening to loud music – police

A teenage Pakistani girl has been shot dead by her uncle following a row over loud music, police said Tuesday.
The incident happened Saturday in the Kallar Kahar valley in Punjab province’s Chakwal district, around 120 kilometres (75 miles) from the capital Islamabad.
“The girl Rehana Bibi was alone at her home and was listening to music when her uncle Muhammad Gulistan… came to her house and asked to lower the volume,” Sadat Ali, an official on duty at Kallar Kahar police station, told AFP.
“On her refusal, they quarrelled and Gulistan shot her dead,” said Ali, adding that Bibi was aged about 17.
Another police official, Ali Akbar, said they were attempting to arrest the killer.
Police said they were not aware of any family feud leading up to the attack.
In Pakistan’s highly patriarchal and often violent society, women are frequently killed over minor issues or so-called matters of “honour”.
The Aurat Foundation, a campaign group that works to improve women’s lives in Pakistan, says more than 3,000 have been killed for “honour” since 2008.

A Cup of Coffee (Adult

A Cup of Coffee (Adult)

An elderly lady went to the doctor and asked his help in reviving her husband’s sex drive. “Why don’t you give him Viagra?” the doctor asks.
“Oh, no,” the woman replies. “He doesn't even take aspirin for a headache.”
“That’s not a problem,” the doctor tells her. “Just crush up the pill and slip it into his coffee. He’ll never even know.”

Several days later, the old woman returns to the doctor, and he asks her if his suggestions worked.

“Oh, Doctor!” she exclaims. “It was horrible! I did just as you said and as soon as he finished his coffee, he jumped up from the table,
ripped off my clothes and took me right there on the table, we made love for a whole hour!!”

“And that was horrible?” the doctor asked, puzzled.

“Oh, the sex was wonderful!” the old woman exclaimed. “But I can never show my face in that coffee shop again!"

Funny Naija Joke: Policemen wey sabi bible quotations pass priest -

Funny Naija Joke: Policemen wey sabi bible quotations pass priest

image
On Lagos-Ibadan express road, when a Pastor met a team of policemen who, quite
naturally, wanted ‘something’ from him. Since he was not prepared to
play their games, they asked for his papers and having combed through everything
without any offence with which to nail the ‘stubborn’ pastor, they now
asked him to open the bonnet of his car.
A careful scrutiny of the engine number against what was on paper revealed that
letter ‘U’ was written in such a way that it could be mistaken for letter ‘V’. That
was all the officer-in-charge needed to shout “stolen vehicle!”
Sensing trouble, even when he knew he committed no offence, the pastor called the OC to say he was a priest to which the officer replied :”Please, leave that
pastor thing…in any case, if you are indeed a pastor, then you must have a
Bible in your car, bring it.”
The Pastor did as was commanded after which the officer now ordered:
“Please read Matthew 5:25-26 to me”.
The incredulous Pastor opened to the recommended passage and read:
“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to a judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. I tell you the truth; you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
The man of God quietly made an “offering” of “just” N100 to his newly found “preacher”.
“End of service go in peace and argue no more”, said the OC.

Teenage festival of life 2014: Caring for out-of-school adolescent girls

The teenage life festival 2014 was tagged with the theme “Assuring the well being and development of out of school girls was organized by the action health incorporation (AHI).
AHI has been dedicated to promoting young health and development, by informing public policy debates, implementing innovative education and healthcare programs and raising a new generation of youth responsive professionals. It serves as an advocate and catalyst for change in favor of youth well-being in Nigeria .
The Teenage festival of life (TFL) was conceptualized by AHI in 1993 as an avenue to bridge the communication gap between the youth and adults on sexuality issues and the challenges of growing up. TFL provides a platform for the youth to acquire knowledge and share their viewpoints on the years designated theme, using the creative arts (drama, songs, poetry, and essay) as a medium.
The competitive presentations in song, drama, poetry and essay explored the experiences of the out of school adolescent girls, health challenges ,developmental challenges ,implication of health and developmental challenges, and the role of Government and other stakeholders in assuring the health and development of adolescent out of school girls
Dr Essiet stated that “Many girls are daily denied their basic human rights, as well as the education, health and skills investments which would enable them to live healthy lives and achieve their potential. In the case of out of school adolescent girls, there are various subsets in this group such as, Married Adolescents, Out of School Adolescent Girls exposed to forced labor, Out of school adolescent girls living in slum communities and out of school adolescent girls trafficked and engaged as domestic help” “The Challenges faced by them include, social isolation, discrimination, physical violence, sexuaxploitation, neglect and all forms of discrimination which not only infringes their fundamental human rights but is counter-productive to personal and national development. These abuses are further compounded in poor and socially disadvantaged or slum communities” He disclosed.

Give Judiciary Its Money

AS a people of many words, we appreciate the essence of justice. The speed of justice is something we use to illustrate the essence of ensuring that justice is done, and in a fashion, that does not vitiate
the essence of justice. Anyone who knows these philosophical postulations about justice would be shocked about minor efforts governments make to facilitate justice.
Judicial workers go on nation-wide strike because money due to state judiciaries is not released. The strike put access to justice on hold.

Senior Advocates Of Nigeria and other dignitaries, at the Valedictory Court Session in honour of retiring Chief Justice of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday (20/11/`14).
The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Otunla, in a 17 July 2014, asked States to comply with a court judgment that vindicated the stand of judiciary workers.
The Federal Government had complied with the judgment by Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking governments at all levels to release allocations to the Judiciary at the federal and state levels. Should that be the case when budgets, once passed become law?
Section 121 (3) of the 1999 Constitution states, “Any amount standing to the credit of the Judiciary in the consolidated revenue fund of the state shall be paid directly to the heads of the courts concerned”.
The provision is clear, express and unequivocal. It depicts the withholding of funds to the Judiciary as unconstitutional. The Executive’s refusal to release the funds led to the court action.
It is unfortunate that the Judiciary is treated as the inferior partner among the three arms of government. It should not be the case.
The Constitution grants the Judiciary independence for it to play its role as arbiter and interpreter of the Constitution and other legal matters without impediments.
The continued withholding of the finances of the Judiciary by the Executive with tacit cooperation of the Legislature, in the States, is an affront to our Constitution. It makes the Judiciary susceptible to
manipulations. The Judiciary cannot operate with the independence the Constitution envisages when its finances are in the control of governors who run States like their private estates.
Governors like to continue in the military tradition that tied the Judiciary to the apron strings of the Executive. They address themselves as executive governors and take credit for achievements of
the Judiciary. The continued breach of the law is not only unacceptable; it is also majorly responsible for the frequent disruptions of work by the judicial workers union in their bid to compel compliance.
We call on the Legislature to join the Judiciary in ensuring executive compliance with the court judgment. Unless all arms of government are independent, the tripod on which democracy thrives would collapse. The
Judiciary in the hands of self-serving governors is additional danger these days

My hubby’s love-making irritates me

My problem is my husband. Before we got married, he was very descent and a gentleman. Since we got married, however, he has turned into what can best be described as an animal. He likes to have sexual intercourse in unusual and perverted ways. Although we have a comfortable bed, he likes to lay me on a hard floor. He asked me to suck him. I want to please him in this, but the thing is so large, it always makes me choky. I never asked him to do anything abnormal so why has he turned into someone I now fear?
It has got to a point where I hate making love to him. I have even thought of running away.
Uche, by e-mail.
Dear Uche,
Why don’t you tell your husband how you feel about his sexual demands? They are not as abnormal as you think, but you have to enjoy doing them together to make it fulfilling.
Discuss the techniques you particularly fancy with him and try and meet his needs half-way too.
Now that you are married, you don’t expect him to be as cautious as when you were courting.
But he needs to ease you into demands you both feel comfortable with. Don’t  run away from perceived problems only to be confronted by real sexual perverts!

120 lawmaker sign Jonathan’s impeachment notice

ABUJA-MORE than 120 lawmakers have  appended their signatures for the impeachment of President Goodluck, immediately House reconvenes in December.
Mohammed Zakari, chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, while reacting on it said “the notice of impeachment was not on the order paper today but I’m not foreclosing that some other things took place.”
On his part, Leo Ogor, deputy House Leader who urged members to jettison such plans, argued that the notice of impeachment is inconsequential, as the President had no hand in what transpired at the National Assembly.
“The President is unaware so bringing it (impeachment) up is going to be defeated. The President has done no wrong, impeachment should not even be part of the issue,” he pleaded.
Similar agitation by aggrieved lawmakers to move for impeachment of Emeka Ihedioha, deputy Speaker during the brief closed door session, was however averted by the Speaker who called for calmness.
The lawmakers  Vanguard further gathered that appended their signatures are of the APC extraction.

David Mark shuts down National Assembly

Nigerian security forces fired teargas on Thursday inside the parliament complex as opposition lawmakers, including the speaker of the lower house, arrived for a key vote on emergency rule in the northeast.
The leader of the Senate, David Mark, later ordered the immediate closure of both chambers until next week over the incident. This was as a result of the confusion that engulfed the complex earlier today.
Multiple reports, including from eye witnesses, indicated that security agents tried to block House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, who defected to the opposition last month, from entering the building.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has tried to remove Tambuwal from the speaker’s chair since his defection and stripped him of his security detail.
Lawmakers had been scheduled to vote Thursday on President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to extend the state of emergency in the northeast region hit hardest by Boko Haram.

AFCON 2015: Eagles crash out

Reigning champions the Super Eagles will not defend their title in Equatorial Guinea after failing to qualify from Group A.
In yesterday’s final round of matches, Nigeria drew 2-2 with South Africa in Uyo, meaning they finished outside of the group’s top two automatic qualification spots with eight points – a total that also put them out of the running to be the best third-placed team.
Their display left much to be desired Ahmed Musa by now should be kicking his head for missing two clear cut chances, he should have buried to put the Eagles ahead in the match. South Africa can thank fleet footed striker Tekelo Rantie for scoring a brace that almost earned the Bafana Bafana their first competitive win over Nigeria.
IT IS FINISHED: Mikel Obi's mood says it all about Nigerian football.
IT IS FINISHED: Mikel Obi’s mood says it all about Nigerian football.
At the start of hostilities, the Bafana Bafana showed that they meant business as they held on to the ball and made dangerous incursions to the Eagles’ box. Rantie proved that he was going to be a handful early in the game as he cranked up the Eagles defence. Kenneth Omeruo was clearly off form and out of depth. Rantie rounded Omeruo, but his shot was deflected over the bar by Azubuike Egweke.
However, the Eagles gathered the pieces and pushed forward with John Obi Mikel calling the shots.   Ikechukwu Uche and Emmanuel Emenike probed the South African back four. Ahmed Musa also proved dangerous.
On the 16 minute of play Musa was put through by Mikel, but he failed to beat Dareen Keet in goal for Bafana Bafana. Two minutes later Musa came one on one with Keet, but shot into the legs of the keeper.
It seems these failed attempts emboldened the South Africans. They took over proceedings by tightening up the midfield and preventing the Eagles strikers from getting feeds. The unthinkable happened in the 42nd minute when Rantie made a run from the left, Efe Ambrose failed to cut his run and when the Bafana Bafana striker came face to face with Vincent Enyeama, he wasted no time in tucking the ball home. The Eagles were shell-shocked.
On the break the South Africans were unrelenting in their attacks. Rantie popped up again and stole the ball from indecisive Omeruo, he raced into the box rounded Enyeama and scored his second.
On the 68th minute, Sone Aluko provided a plank for the Eagles to make a come back when he jabbed home a re-bound from an Uche strike that hit the post.
But the Eagles laboured on despite having a man advantage after Reneilwe was sent off for a second bookable offense on Juwon Oshaniwo. The South Africans held on, but the resistant, however, was wearing thin. Aluko scored his second of the night when he wrestled the ball from the South African defence. He raced into the box and shot pass Keet. But it was of no use as Congo beat Sudan 0-1 at home to clinch the second spot.

I don’t know how bullets left my AK-47, dismissed DPO tells court -

Lagos—A former Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Segun Fabunmi, attached to Pen Cinema Division of Lagos State Police Command, Wednesday, told a Lagos High Court that he could not explain how the ammunition allocated to him left his rifle.
Fabunmi, who had been dismissed, is standing trial for allegedly killing one Ademola Daramola and injuring others during the mass protest on fuel subsidy, organized by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, of Nigeria, in January 9, 2012.
The alleged offence was committed at Yaya-Abatan, Agege, during the protest.
At the resumed hearing of the trial, Fabunmi said the AK-47 rifle was opened, while on his way to the scene of protest, adding that after Daramola died, he could no longer remember how many rounds of ammunition were left in the rifle until he was about being detained.
Fabunmi, who was being cross-examined by Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, told Justice Olabisi Akinlade that he neither chased anybody, shot nor injured people.
He said: “I did not run after the late Ademola Daramola, may his soul rest in peace. I do not know him. Why would I chase him? It is ridiculous.
“I never ran to anywhere neither did I fire any shot at anybody.”
The defendant also told Justice Olabisi Akinlade that on January 9, 2012, he received a distress call that hoodlums at Yaya Abatan Junction, Ogba Agege area, were breaking people’s windscreens and holding innocent people hostage.
He said when he got there, there was break down of law and order and that immediately the hoodlums saw him and the other seven police officers, they started throwing bottles, sticks, cutlasses, stones and Molotov Curtails.
When asked if he knew that some ammunition got out of his gun, Fabunmi said: ”Yes. I knew that some ammunition got out of my gun when the hoodlums were trying to dispossess me of my rifle, after I sustained injury.
“It took the grace of God for them not to have collected the rifle from me. The other police officers all ran away.”
He said he had only been DPO of Pen Cinema Police Division for two months and that he went to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment, but that he could not remember the name of the doctor that treated him.
However, Justice Akinlade adjourned the matter to February 18, 2015, for the adoption of written addresses.
